BHBR Country Week 2023 kicks off with Men’s and Women’s Pairs at Central Wendouree Bowling Club
BHBR Country Week 2023 kicked off on Monday, 6th February 2023 with Men’s and Women’s Pairs events at Central Wendouree Bowling Club in Ballarat.
A total of 20 men’s teams and 10 women’s teams turned out on day one with the men’s division split into 5 sections of four teams, while the women’s had 2 sections of three and 1 section of four.
Following an introduction from Central Wendouree club president, Laurie Wadeson, welcoming players to the host club, and a welcome and rules run down from event organiser, BHBR Chairman, Ian Guymer, players headed out to the greens to play three games of 10 ends to decide section winners.
The greens played well, and the weather gods were on board making for fine bowling conditions on the day.
Out on the greens the competition was fierce and the comradery high, with some quality bowls on display.
Buninyong had a great day with 4 teams advancing through to the finals on Friday.
Allan Donelly & John Nunn (Section 2), Brian Johnson & Peter Aldred (Section 3) and Keith Chapman & Wayne Morgan (Section 5) all won their Men’s Pairs sections, while reigning Women’s Pairs champions, Yvonne Clark & Julie Pobjoy won their Women’s section.
Waubra’s Tony Briody & Jim Troy (Section 1) and Daylesford’s Winston Silbereisen & Stevan Stupavski (Section 4) join the three Buninyong teams in men’s pairs finals action.
Smeaton Bowling Club won two of the three Women’s Pairs sections with Barbara Adam & Suzanne Lafranchi (Section 1) and Helen Mizzeni & Jenny Toose (Section 3) joining Yvonne Clark & Julie Pobjoy in the Women’s Pairs finals.
Men’s and Women’s pairs Semi Finals commence at 9.30am on Friday, 10th February 2023 at Central Wendouree Bowling Club.
