Country Week 2024 Pairs, Triples and Fours results at Central Wendouree

A great week was enjoyed by country team bowlers from the Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region who participated in Country Week 2024 from Monday, 5th Feburary to Thursday, 8th February 2024 at Central Wendouree Bowling Club.

Len Vincent and Central Wendouree organised and hosted the event with a total of 84 bowlers taking part over the three days of Pairs (Monday), Triples (Wednesday) and Fours (Thursday).

Country Week 2024 attracted 3 country-based clubs of the BHBR, including Ballan, Beaufort, Bungaree, Buninyong, Clunes, Creswick, Daylesford, Diggers Rest, Invermay, Learmonth, Linton, Smeaton and Waubra, plus a team from Mortlake who competed on Wednesday & Thursday in the Men’s Triples & Fours events.

The Women’s team from Clunes enjoyed double success during the course of the tournament winning Monday’s Pairs event which they followed up with winning the Fours title on Thursday.

Waubra’s men also enjoyed similar success winning the Triples event played on Wednesday and the Fours on Thursday.

Clunes Jenny Cameron in response to her team winning the Women’s Fours event said, “I congratulated the Central Wendouree Bowling Club for the excellent manner the week’s tournament was managed, together with the presentation of the greens for play and the home hospitality that was provided after each event.”

I liked the move to the format of deciding each event using the points system so we know who are the winners at the conclusion of the day’s play rather than having to return on Friday for an extra day for sectional winners to play off for the title“.

Waubra’s Tony Briody who played in all three Men’s events was thrilled that the Club took out the Men’s Triples and Fours titles.

It’s been a fantastic tournament and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the week,” Tony said.

The fellowship and camaraderie enjoyed between all the players has been great.”

The weather was perfect for bowls and the greens played well throughout the whole tournament.”

We are grateful to the Central Wendouree club for all they have done to make it all happen“.

Central Wendouree’s tournament organiser, Len Vincent reiterated that the Club had received positive comments to the move to deciding event winners on the day by using the points system rather than scheduling an extra day on the Friday to play off by Sectional winners for each event title.

Overall everybody seemed happy with how things went with a great atmosphere between the players both on the green and back in the clubhouse after their games,” Len said.

It was pleasing we also got a good number of entries from the Region’s Country clubs in the tournament which we can build on for next year’s event“.
