Ballarat Gold Diggers flying high at U18 State Championships 2024

The U18 State Championships were held from Tuesday, 2nd April to Sunday, 7th April, 2024 at Club Sunbury in Victoria.

A number of the Ballarat U18 Gold Diggers were competing for the Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region with Learmonth’s Addy Ryan and Kilmore’s Bailey Bradley finishing runner-up in the U18 Mixed Pairs and U13 Open Singles respectively.

Addy teamed up with South Bendigo’s Nick Rowley in the Mixed Pairs grand final against Bendigo East’s Bailee Randell and Fitzroy Victoria’s Chloe Scherger and they lost by one shot in a hard-fought tussle.

Addy also won her section of the U18 Girl’s Singles before finding Club Sunbury’s Akasha Fortune too strong in the first round of the finals.

Akasha went on to win the U18 Girl’s Singles, defeating Drysdale’s Maya Rees 21-13 in an entertaining match.

Bailey Bradley had a fantastic U13 Open Singles tournament, winning his section in solid style, before defeating Jack Duck 21-8 in a semi final.

He faced in form Moonee Valley bowler Flynn Cassidy in the grand final, going down by 9 shots (21-13) in a top effort.

The Kilmore youngster is making great inroads in his bowling endeavours.

Victoria’s Jack Lennecke and Ballarat North’s Logan Mattei also performed strongly in the U13 Open Singles, making it through to the semi finals.

Jack lost his quarter final to Whittlesea’s Jack Duck by 3 shots (21), while Logan bowed out to Bailey Bradley (23-13).

In the Boy’s Pairs, Victoria’s Jack Lennecke and Micah Oswin advanced to the quarter finals before losing 20-8 to Fitzroy Victoria’s Alessi Di Sipio and Eridani Wheeler.

Addy Ryan and Maya Rees also exited at the quarter final stage of the U18 Girl’s Pairs to Kyabram’s Mackenzie Parsons and Moama’s Gracie Retallick by 3 shots (11-8).

Victoria’s Micah Oswin won his section of the U18 Boy’s Singles in emphatic fashion before going down by 2 shots to Leopold’s Riley Cameron in Round 1 of the finals.

Micah also teamed up with Ballarat’s Nathan Dubberley and Ballarat North’s Logan Mattei (Ballarat North) in the U18 Open Triples where they got through to the semi finals.

They went down in their semi by 5 shots (19-14) to Moama’s Jacob Brighton, Club Sunbury’s Joshua Leszczynski and Bendigo East’s Sam Nemeth.
