Sebastopol team wins first tournament on Creswick Bowling Club’s new green

The Creswick Bowling Club unveiled their new green to an Open Fours tournament on Saturday, 13th January 2024 receiving many compliments from players on the day.

It’s almost two years to the day since the Creswick club was devastated by floods in the area which saw their green out of action for the past couple of years.

Players enjoyed a wonderful day’s bowling and club president Gerry Flapper was delighted with how the day went.

It’s gone magnificently today,” Gerry said.

All the clubs supported us really, really well and it was no problem filling the green up and everybody had a great time.”

The new green bowled magnificent and we are very thankful to have Verey Funeral Directors from Daylesford and Creswick as our tournament sponsor.”

“They’ve looked after Creswick for many years now and they do a great job.”

The tournament itself came down to the wire with only one point separating first to third.

Inaugrual new green winners were Sebastopol’s Fred Reus, Brian Johnson, John Garvin and Paul Lovell with a score of 80, defeating Learmonth’s Steve Fitzgibbon, Ross Powell, Gary Moy and Greg Ross on 79.

In third place on countback was Mt Xavier’s Jack McDonald, Chris Reid, Ben McDonald and Josh Sargeant, also on 79 points.

Sebastopol’s Fred Reus enjoyed the comradery of the day along with the new Creswick surface.

The green played beautifully on the day,” Fred said.

Creswick is a wonderful club filled with great people and it was devastating to see what happened to them with the floods two years go.”

It was a fantastic event today playing against lovely people and the club put on a great spread for players too.”

We are delighted to get a win on Creswick’s new green against very good competition and congratulations to the club for a great day.”

Creswick Bowling Club welcomes City Oval to their new green on Friday night to face off in Division 1 action and Gerry Flapper is expecting a good turn out.

We’re playing against City Oval on Friday night and we’re hoping to get a few spectators out.”

It should be a great night providing the weather is in favour of us.”
