Midlands Jim Ross receives Life Membership

Midlands lawn bowls legend Jim Ross has received life membership for his ongoing loyalty to both game and club.

Jim has played over 800 games for the Midlands Bowling Club spanning 50 years and has had a decorated career playing the game he loves.

It was a fitting accolade for a wonderful clubman according to club president, Barry Wilson.

Jim started serving behind the bar for a couple of years before taking up bowls,” Barry said.

He started at Midlands in 1974 at the old club just off Norman St which is now the QE Centre and has spent a remarkable 50 years at the one club.”

He’s won 2 club championships, played in 7 premiership teams in various divisions, and been fabulous around the club.”

“For 12 years he volunteered emptying the gaming hoppers of a Sunday morning and was on various committees for over 7 years.”

He turns 90 early next year and is playing better than ever.”
