BHBR’s Brenton Coad set to take on Australia’s best at The Nationals

BHBR’s Brenton Coad (Victoria Bowling Club) will have Ballarat and the state’s bowling fraternity behind him as he heads west this week to compete in the Australian Champion of Champions Men’s Singles at The Nationals in Western Australia.

The 2023 Australian Champion of Champions takes place on Friday, 6th and Saturday, 7th October 2023 at Sorrento Bowling Club.

Brenton qualified for The Nationals by winning the Men’s Champion of Champions Singles title in April during 2023 State Champions Week in Bendigo.

It’s been a huge year of bowls for the talented Victoria bowler.

A Division 1 Pennant premiership with club and teammates, a club championship, a Champion of Champions Singles win, followed by a call up to the newly formed Sebastopol Burras franchise where he performed at a very high level.

Now The Nationals await against the Australia’s best bowlers and Brenton is pumped for the challenge ahead.

I believe I’m very ready and in good form to take on Australia’s best,” Brenton said.

Since the VBL I’ve been practicing 2-3 times a week on Victoria’s carpet and green.”

The VBL provided excellent practice playing a lot of top class bowlers in the singles including Craig Mills who I play first up.”

It’s been a busy period for Brenton since winning the state singles in April but he’s prepared as best he can to give it his best shot.

I’ve been very excited to play for the Australian title and been counting down the days since I won the Victorian Champion of Champions event,” Brenton said.

There’s no real expectations, I just want to take each game as it comes and really concentrate.”

I’m also very eager to represent my club and the group and do them proud.”

A rematch with Craig Mills awaits Brenton in Round 2 on Friday, while the Round 6 clash with three-time Australian Champion of Champions winner and reigning Golden Nugget champ, Lee Schraner, looms as an exciting matchup on Saturday.

Brenton’s singles performance at the recent VBL was exceptional with victories over the likes of Craig Mills, Jay Bye Norris and Ali Forsyth and puts him in good stead for a solid tilt at The Nationals.

We wish Brenton all the best this weekend!

Moama Bowling Club’s Australian Open Women’s Singles winner Cass Millerick is also representing region and state in the Australian Champion of Champions Women’s singles.

Cass has also had an outstanding year of bowls, highlighted by her outstanding Australian Open singles win against Kelsey Cottrell in June, and we wish her all the best in the women’s event.

Both Cass and Brenton are sure to represent their region and state with distinction.

Bowls Australia has a Live Scoring page for the event, and they are also Live Streaming matches on Facebook as well.
