2023 BHBR Provincial Championships @ Horsham

A very good performance by the BHBR team last Sunday in Horsham at the Provincial Shield event.

Ballarat 66 – 89 Bendigo

In the first game against Bendigo, all rinks were either in front or around even at the halfway mark.

However, in the last half of the games, when Bendigo lifted, we were unable to go with them and finished with 5 losing rinks, with Gavin Mann’s rink being the only victorious rink, 13-6.

Gavin Mann 13-6
Haig Varcoe 14-17
Anthony Mathison 12-23
Taylor Stewart 9-11
Ben McArthur 9-15
Ryan Bedggood 9-17

Ballarat 84 – 81 Geelong

In the second game, we played a very strong Geelong side with most of their top bowlers playing.

This was a great performance by the BHBR team, with Gavin Mann and Taylor Stewart rinks edging out to good leads around the halfway mark, whilst the other rinks were fairly even.

The end result saw the Varcoe, Stewart and Bedggood rinks record wins with the Mann rink drawing their game.

The Ryan Bedggood rink was a great performance, coming from 4-10 down to win 15-10.

The overall results saw a Ballarat victory over Geelong by 3 shots.

Gavin Mann 16-16
Haig Varcoe 14-12
Anthony Mathison 12-15
Taylor Stewart 16-9
Ben McArthur 11-19
Ryan Bedggood 15-10

Ballarat 94 – 70 Wimmera

The third game saw BHBR play Wimmera and again, most games saw results fairly level at the halfway mark.

However, in contrast to the first game, the Ballarat team lifted in the second half of the matches and it was Wimmera who were unable to stay with us.

The end results saw Ballarat win four of the six rinks, with Anthony Mathison’s rink taking out a very strong result, one rink ending in a draw and Wimmera winning the sixth rink.

Gavin Mann 14-19
Haig Varcoe 15-13
Anthony Mathison 24-8
Taylor Stewart 16-8
Ben McArthur 14-11
Ryan Bedgood 11-11

After the three rounds, Bendigo, Geelong and Ballarat were even on 2 wins each, with Bendigo taking out the shield on shots up.

Overall, a very good performance by the BHBR team – Well done to all of our players.

Unfortunately, at the current time, the host club has not put any results on Bowlslink.
