Ballarat Highlands and Geelong clash in annual Whykes and Webster/Page Shield at Belmont

The Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region takes on the Geelong Bowls Region in the annual Whykes and Webster/Page Shield events on Sunday, 22nd January 2023 at Belmont Bowls Club.

Ballarat Gold Digger and current Under 18 Victorian state player, Creswick’s Dusty Taylor-Irwin, is looking forward to representing the Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region again at Belmont.

“I’m bowling with Leah McCarthur and I’ve bowled with her a couple of times and she’s really good and been a good mentor for me,” Dusty said.

Addy Ryan (Learmonth), Stacey Forrest (Mt Xavier) and Leah McCarthur (Webbcona) bowled alongside Dusty in the recent 2022 Boromeo-Lucas Shield for ladies at Smeaton in December.

Ballarat Highlands defeated Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields 103-92 with Leah McCarthur’s rink scoring an 18-14 victory over Marilyn Stephenson’s rink.

“Addy is also in my rink as well, and she’s another young bowler too, and I’m excited to play with her again,” Dusty said.

“We did well in the Boromeo/Lucas shield together and we’re looking forward to playing Geelong and hopefully having a win.”

Kyneton’s Denise Knight replaces Stacey Forrest in Leah’s rink against Geelong.

Dusty and Addy represented the Ballarat Gold Diggers in the Junior Provincial Shield on Wednesday, 18th January where they finished third in Section One.

Our emerging young bowlers will gain plenty of experience against the Geelong Region in Belmont.
