BHBR’s 2023 Heartbeat Tournament another successful day

The BHBR annual bowls Heartbeat tournament was another great success to kick start bowls for many players after the Christmas & New Year festivities.

Forty team entries including bowlers from Ballarat’s Junior diggers squad participated in Sunday afternoon’s event which again was hosted by the Ballarat and City Oval bowling clubs.

Games were played in ideal weather conditions to welcome bowlers back onto the greens after the festive break.

A total of 22 teams played on the City Oval greens whilst 18 teams played at Ballarat Bowling Club.

Great fun was had by all, with a successful raffle raising funds for the much-needed cause, together with other sponsorship and team entry fees contributing to over $5,000 being raised for both hospitals serving the Ballarat District.

Heartbeat Australia’s Ballarat secretary Barry Nixon spoke how important it was for all to remain active and socialise at all times to retain good health and presented a certificate of appreciation to both the City Oval and Ballarat bowling clubs in recognising the great achievement for their contribution to Heartbeat.

Particular thanks were expressed to the organisers Ross Jones, Lionel Calf and Ken Birch for their great efforts in again arranging a very successful tournament.

The Mt Xavier team of Helen Jones, Christine Squire, Darryl Boyd and skippered by Stephen Jones won the competition played at City Oval with runners up being the Smeaton entry of Helen & Rob Mizzeni, Miriam Haines and skippered by Graeme Perry.

At Ballarat bowling club the winners were Webbcona’s Rosalie Lowe, Raelene Worsley, Darby Lowe and skippered by Harold Worsley with the runners up being the rink of Ross Jones, Barbara Rowe, Janine O’Keefe and skipper John Quick.
