Amy Newman, Anne Draffen and Janice Conroy win 2022-2023 BHBR Women’s Triples title

The composite team of Amy Newman (Ballarat North), Anne Draffen & Janice Conroy (Ballan) took out the 2022-2023 BHBR Women’s Triples event on Sunday, 18th December 2022 at Kyneton Bowling Club.

The trio had an easier ride into the Women’s Triples title comfortably winning both their morning semi final against the Diggers Rest team of Trish Odgers, Amanda Rayner and Rhonda Shears, then the final against the City Oval team of Sandy Grano, S McCracken and Liz Kierce.

Their Grand Final win was set up with a strong start, going out to a 10 to 2 lead after 6 ends, before the City Oval outfit fought back courtesy of skipper Liz Kierce having some success with her up shots, with Anne’s team leading 16-9 after the 13th end.

Amy, Anne & Janice ran out eventual 17-13 winners in a hotly contested match.

Ballarat North bowler Amy Newman came into the Ballan team as a substitute for Maren Jones who was unable to play and put down some lovely draw bowls to assist the side through to the Women’s Triples title.

Amy’s grandmother and number 1 supporter came along to watch the game and was thrilled for her granddaughter’s success, capping off the occasion for Heather who celebrated a special birthday on the day.
