Gisborne’s David Beardmore & Vic Foxford win 2022-2023 BHBR Men’s Over 60 Pairs event
It was an all Gisborne affair in the 2022-2023 BHBR Men’s Over 60 Pairs final with David Beardmore and Vic Foxford defeating fellow club members Tim Rogers and Terry Kelly by 4 shots to win the region title.
The 15-end match was played on Thursday, 8th December 2022 at Ballarat North Bowling Club with indifferent weather and gusty winds the order of the day.
It made for tricky bowling conditions for both teams with the wind playing havoc at times.
Tim and Terry were in control early, leading 4-2 after five ends and 7-5 after nine, but their opponents were up for the challenge and rising to the occasion.
The 10th end proved pivotal as David & Vic landed 4 shots to take a 9-7 lead with five ends to play.
A single to Tim and Terry on the 11th end was followed by a 2 & 1 to David and Vic on ends 12 and 13, with the latter holding a 12-8 advantage heading into the last two ends.
Singles to both teams on the final two ends resulted in a 13-9 win to David Beardmore & Vic Foxford.
The match was played in great spirit between two competitive Gisborne outfits who came to play, but there could only be one winner.
David Beardmore’s precision bowling at clutch times throughout the match proved the difference, with partner Vic chiming in when required to give them a deserved victory.
David was elated to score a win over top bowlers in Tim Rogers and Terry Kelly.
“I thought we were the underdogs going in against two Division 1 metro bowlers in Terry and Tim and my partner Vic bowled beautifully and I played my part too,” David said.
“Conditions were very difficult and we weren’t expected to win but we did, and it feels great.”
“If the match was played at Gisborne, we would have struggled to beat them, but on this neutral green we had a good chance.”
Congratulations to David and Vic on winning the 22-23 BHBR Men’s Over 60 Pairs event and good luck representing the region in Bendigo next year.
