Midlands Greg Plier captures 2022-2023 BHBR Men’s Over 60 Singles title

Midlands Greg Plier has taken out the 2022-2023 BHBR Men’s Over 60 Singles title on Thursday, 10th November 2022 at Sebastopol Bowling Club.

Greg played exemplary bowls throughout the tournament and was a deserved winner.

He had a bye in the first round before scoring comfortable victories over Michael Keenan (Macedon) and Craig Meade (Sebastopol) in the next two rounds.

Facing Brian Johnson (Buninyong) in the Quarter Final in what turned out to be a great battle and match, Greg was put to the test when scores were level at 18-18 apiece, but his experience came to the fore in the final stanza, snaring three shots on the final end to win 21-18 in a close game.

Shane Crimmens (Diggers Rest) awaited Greg in the Semi Final, and it was another great tussle between two in form bowlers.

The Midlands bowler’s consistency proved crucial in the end, winning by 6 shots to advance to the Final.

His Grand Final opponent was Victoria’s Noel Verlinden.

Noel defeated Sydney Walters (Linton) and Edward Harwood (Midlands) in the early rounds before beating Brad Mahoney (Buninyong) and Ian Warner (Sebastopol) to reach the Final.

The 2022-2023 BHBR Men’s Over 60 Singles Final proved to be one-way traffic with Greg Player bowling magnificently to win by 15 shots over a gallant Noel Verlinden.

Congratulations to Greg Plier on winning the Men’s Over 60 Singles crown and good luck representing the region in Bendigo next year.
