City Oval’s Elizabeth Kierce captures 2022-2023 BHBR Women’s Over 60 Singles crown

City Oval’s Elizabeth Kierce captured the 2022-2023 BHBR Women’s Over 60 Singles crown on Thursday, 10th November 2022 at Sebastopol Bowling Club.

Elizabeth, also known as Liz, proved too good for a strong field of women bowlers with close matches aplenty during the tournament.

Liz faced Teresa Wylie (Gisborne) in Round 1 in what was a great match.

Both players gave their all before Liz managed to snare a one shot victory on the last end, winning 21-20 in an exciting finish.

A comfortable win over Jill Hopper (Victoria) in the Quarter Final set up a Semi Final clash with fellow teammate, Janine Roberts (City Oval), a repeat of last year’s Women’s Over 60 Singles Final where Janine was victorious.

Another great battle ensued between the two competitive City Oval Bowlers and once again it would go down to the wire, with Liz managing to win by the narrowest of margins, 21-20, setting up a Grand Final berth against Webbcona’s Helen Williams.

Helen had a great battle with Midlands Patricia Speechley in her Semi Final, winning 21-20 in yet another thrilling close finish.

Both Semi Finals were decided by just one shot each in a fantastic display of bowling by all bowlers.

The close finishes ended there, with Liz Kierce proving dominant in the 2022-2023 BHBR Women’s Over 60 Singles Final, scoring a 15 shot victory over a valiant Helen Williams.

Congratulations to Elizabeth Kierce on winning the Women’s Over 60 Singles and good luck representing the region in Bendigo next year.
