Buninyong’s Yvonne Clark and Keith Chapman capture 2021-22 BHBR Mixed Pairs Title
The 2021-22 BHBR Mixed Pairs Final was played on Sunday, 13th March 2022 at Kyneton Bowling Club and Buninyong’s Yvonne Clark and Keith Chapman emerged victorious in a thrilling final.
The Buninyong pair faced Gisborne’s Dot Evans & Ethan Higgins in the final and got off to a good start to lead 6-2 by the fourth end, before the Gisborne duo snared a 6 on the fifth end before progressing to a 12-8 lead by the eighth end.
Humid conditions became a factor as the game progressed, with bowlers from both sides being challenged in the heat of battle.
The greens ran well with some slight gusty winds presenting a further challenge for the players.
The Buninyong pair held a 3 shot lead heading into the final end (18th) when the Gisborne pair got three shots forcing the game into a further end to be played to determine a result.
In a climax to the game, Buninyong held a couple of shots in the head before the young Gisborne skipper Ethan Higgins played an up shot, pushing the Jack out in the open, where Gisborne had a bowl in the vicinity and held shot.
Buninyong’s skipper Keith Chapman then put in his last bowl and managed to narrowly outdraw the Gisborne bowl, leaving the challenge for Ethan to try and win the game on his last bowl, which he was unable to do.

2021-22 BHBR Fours Finals
The BHBR Men and Women’s Region Fours finals were played on Thursday, 10th March at Ballarat Bowling Club.
The Victoria Bowling Club team of Debbie Gorin, Jill Hooper, Dona Leeson & skipper Helene Stenning took out the 2021-22 BHBR Women’s Fours by a single shot, winning 14-13 over Webbcona Bowling Club’s Joy Feltham, Loris Gullock, Jennifer Shepherd and Vicki Waldron.
Gisborne Bowling Club’s David Beardmore, Terry Kelly, Graham Edwards and Ethan Higgins captured the 2021-22 BHBR Men’s Fours Final over Sebastopol Bowling Club’s Fred Reus, John Garvin, Murray Gannon and Paul Lovell.
The Sebastopol team got out to a 10-2 lead after nine ends before the Gisborne team won the next eight ends to go into the final end 8 shots up, eventually winning 18-13 in a see-sawing match.
Both Victoria (Women) and Gisborne (Men) will now go on to represent the Region at the State Championships in Bendigo in April.
2021-22 Men’s Singles, Pairs, Triples Region Finals
The Kyneton Bowling Club will be hosting the 2021-22 BHBR Men’s Singles, Pairs and Triples finals on Sunday, 27th March 2022.
