Janine & Wayne Roberts capture 2021-2022 BHBR Over 60 Singles Titles

It’s a family affair in Ballarat this season with City Oval’s husband and wife combination of Wayne and Janine Roberts winning through in their respective 2021-2022 BHBR Over 60 Singles competition.

Janine Roberts played fellow City Oval compatriot Elizabeth Kierce in the Women’s final in what was a tough and see-sawing game.

Initially Janine took the early running before Elizabeth clawed back the lead midway through.

It was in the final stages that Janine won the mat and drew shots on the final two ends of the game securing her win and claiming back-to-back victories after winning the event in 2021.

In the Men’s Over 60 Singles Final, it was Wayne Roberts who had a comfortable win over BMS’s Brian Hickman.

Brian was unable to replicate his precise bowling from the earlier games of the competition which enabled Wayne to take out a strong lead in the first half of the game.

However, Brian regained composure in the second half of the match and started drawing to the jack to get shots on the board.

Unfortunately, he was unable to overcome the earlier deficit and Wayne went on to win comfortably with a 21 to 7 shot victory.

The Men’s competition was run on a Ballarat playing area basis with Wayne Roberts due to travel to Kyneton Bowling Club on Thursday 27th January 2022, to play Romsey’s John Beaumont for the Region title.

The Women’s competition was organized as a Region event and therefore Janine Roberts now goes straight through to play in the State Championships in the week 30th April to 8th May 2022 to be played at Bendigo.
