Kyneton’s Jerry Richmond and Jim Cooper win 24-25 BHBR Men’s Over 60 Pairs event

Jerry Richmond and Jim Cooper from Kyneton Bowling Club defeated Noel Verlinden and Barry Clark from Victoria Bowling Club by one shot to capture the 2024-2025 Men’s Over 60 Pairs championship in the Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region (BHBR).

The Men’s Over 60 Pairs final was played on Wednesday, 16th October 2024 at Ballarat Memorial Sports (BMS) Bowling Club and final score was 14-13.

It was a close tussle throughout, although Noel & Barry went out to a 5 shot lead (8-3) on the 6th end before the Kyneton pair upped the ante winning 6 of the next 8 ends and drawing level at 13-13 with one end to play.

On the last end, Jim Cooper from Kyneton placed his first bowl alongside the jack which could not be displaced despite an up shot by Barry Clark on his final bowl, leaving the Kyneton pair to take home the title for this year.

Kyneton’s Jerry Richmond has only just moved to the BHBR and was chuffed to get the win with his partner Jim Cooper at his new club Kyneton..

“It’s great to win this event with Jim and for Kyneton,” said Jerry.

“I’ve only been up here since December after moving up from Melbourne and it was my first time representing the club in a region event.”

“Kyneton is a great club and I am enjoying my time there and I’m thankful to my partner Jimmy today as it was tough conditions on both sides of the green at times and grateful we got there in the end.”

Congratulations to Jim and Jerry who will now represent the BHBR in the State Championships at Bendigo next April.
